At Roulet Law Firm, we design personalized plans that provide protection for our clients and their families. Our goal is to design a personalized plan that meets the unique needs of each of our clients.
What Is a Will?
A will is a legal document that states who should manage your affairs, and who should receive your assets, in the event something happened to you. Unlike a trust, a will does not have any legal effect while you are alive; a will only becomes effective after your passing. Also unlike a trust, a will requires your family to go through a probate proceeding and is subject to a probate court.
Why Have a Will?
If you do not have a will, a judge will determine who is in charge of your estate, who will receive your assets and when, and who will raise your children. A personalized will, properly designed, will allow you to make these decisions in advance.
What Types of Wills Are Available?
There is no such thing as a one-size-fits-all will. When designing a plan, it is important to consider all of your financial and personal goals. Families who seek to avoid the time and expense of probate, with more advanced estate planning needs, or those with high value estates, homes in two or more states, businesses or land, can and should consider a trust rather than a will.
